Unless the Bride plans to domineer every little aspect of her wedding (which he has every right to do), the bridal shower gives the bridesmaids a chance to conspire and create a party that is both fun and practical. A bridal shower takes place before the wedding and it constituted of the bride’s family and close friends, who will ‘shower’ her with gifts, support, and advice. Of course the odd, cheeky story might get thrown in but it’s all part of the party.
Start planning this event 6 weeks in advance and encourage the bride to register for gifts, getting her to include some cheaper items too for anyone with a tighter budget. The guest list should definitely be approved by the bride, but you may keep the date a secret.
Theme
If you don’t enjoy keeping things simple, a theme is a great way to add flavour to a shower. Activities, gifts and favours can revolve around a chosen theme although it’s not completely necessary. Bearing the bride’s interests in mind will help you hit on a shower scheme she will love and never forget.
(i) Kitchen: This is a good chance to throw household items into the bride’s lap. Not literally though, because a flying microwave might hurt a bit. Kitchen-based showers are recommended for couples that will really appreciate an amalgam of household items to get them started off.
(ii) Lingerie: This is something a newly-wed woman will also make good use of. Scented candles, chocolate, champagne and whipped cream augment the tone of sensuality at the shower, where the bride’s presents are sure to raise plenty of giggles.
(iii) Food-related: Everyone likes these. If the most of the invited guests are great cooks, you should state on the invitation that each guest should also bring a dish or delicacy along.
(iv) Beauty: Comfort-loving brides will love a shower unwinds over a long day at the spa. All the girls get a treat and the lady of honour goes home with perfect skin, nails and an armful of scented, therapeutic goodies.
(v) Entertainment: Absolutely any theme would do here. The purpose is fun and fun alone. Pirates, mardi-gras, secret agent and anything else. Just brainstorm with the bridesmaids and see what you come up with, making sure that all the ideas would appeal to the bride.
Save the memories. A shower is not the grand and beautiful the wedding will be, but many people would love to look back on this event for the sheer hilarity of it. Don’t hire a photographer or cameraman because the shower is a closed event. A home video camera is good enough to capture girls with cucumber slice eyes, a bride looking amused and aghast at a sexy new bra, the toilet paper wedding gowns and more.
A scrapbook is also a fantastic idea. Use the shower invitations to warn guests in advance that they need to bring along some material that has some significance to the bride. Get people to write and doodle in it so that you end the day with a truly diverse and captivating scrapbook.
