After your guest list has been comprised, send the invitees ‘save-the-date’ cards or magnets. These are especially important if your wedding will take place on a long weekend, when people tend to make holiday arrangements. Consult this schedule to make sure invitations are sent at the right time.
9-12 months: Save the date cards (for a destination wedding)
5 months: Save the date cards
2-3 months: Invitations (for a destination wedding)
2 months: Invitations (for a holiday wedding)
1 month: Invitations
Depending on what type of wedding yours will be, only two of the above date guides will apply to you. Each estimated date gives your guests plenty of time to make travel arrangements and take leave from work. For a local wedding on a non-holiday weekend, save-the-date cards aren’t a necessity. Just post the invitations at the one month mark.
