Let us analyse a typical invitation from a receiver’s point of view. They would see:
(i) The outer envelope – This is what is scanned by the post office and does not need to be intricate or expensive
(ii) The inner envelope – Lists the names of the invited recipients only
(iii) Ceremony card – Invites guests to a ceremony, generally a more private affair
(iv) Reception card – Invites guests to the reception. The time and location of the reception can instead be printed onto the ceremony card, especially if they take place in the same location.
(v) Response cards – A self-addressed, stamped RSVP with a consensus date so you are aware of who will be present before making further plans.
For the benefit of certain guests, consider including a card with directions and a map, and a card listing accommodation and area information. People that have travelled far just to make it to your wedding will really appreciate this.
Your wedding invitation does not simply have to be filled with fancy paper and calligraphy. Add a personal touch to yours by including dried blossoms, sequins, small shells or anything that will excite your guests by giving them a hint of what to expect.
