Shape

Understanding your figure will help determine what style of dress you should go for.
The picture below will give you a rough idea of the shape categories but if you’re still confused, try using an online calculator.

There is no universal style guide when it comes to wedding dresses such as rules that decree what silhouette girls of a certain figure must stick to. All you need is a mirror, some good friends and common sense to choose the right style.
For example, a slender or petite person shouldn’t go for a full-skirted ballerina dress because they will simply disappear into it. A column dress is a lot more flattering in this case.
With a curvy figure you’re lucky enough to wear almost anything. A Mermaid dress will really help flaunt that figure.
That’s what shape-style selection is really all about; flaunt what you want and hide what you have to. Think about your bust and necklines that will or won’t draw attention to it. A v-neck or sweetheart for example, will provide the chance to show off cleavage.

Workout warning
If you’ve started a workout routine, use it to maintain a shape after your dress has been ordered, rather than to tone it down. You might be getting fitted with every crunch, but your wedding dress is not going to magically shrink to fit you. Repeatedly going for fittings so that your dress can be altered will only cause stress and eat up valuable time. Start working out a year in advance so that when the time comes, you will only have to workout to maintain your weight and shape.
